Around half of all drivers in Germany pay too much for parking
According to market research by the digital parking service ParkNow, 49% of all drivers in Germany pay an average of €1,30 too much for parking. Often, they even forego a parking ticket altogether, with the main reason given being a lack of change to pay for the parking ticket.
Hopp market research, which surveyed over 1.200 drivers in Germany, found that only about half of German car drivers pay for the exact time when buying a parking ticket. The other half usually pay too much to be on the safe side, and only a very small proportion deliberately pay too little.
Women in particular pay more than average for parking fees (54%). This proportion also increases significantly with age and is 51% for 60- to 57-year-old car drivers (compared to 18% for 30- to 39-year-olds).
Often a parking ticket is dispensed with altogether
The market analysis also shows that 4% of German drivers never pay for a parking ticket. Only a third always get a parking ticket in a paid parking zone. The majority of car users pay often, occasionally or rarely and therefore risk a parking ticket.
Reasons given for not using a parking ticket include the opportunity to save money, inadequate monitoring by security staff or the long distance to the parking ticket machine.
