This is the new “MasterChef”: Tobias from Hilden wins the grand finale

He is the radiant winner: Tobias (31) from Hilden near Düsseldorf won "MasterChef 2019" last night. The trained educator was able to prevail against his opponent Katharina (30) in the thrilling final and won not only the coveted "MasterChef" trophy, but also 50.000 euros and a cover story in the leading lifestyle magazine "Lust auf Genuss".

Tobias' five-course winning menu: As an amuse bouche he served seared watermelon with tarragon, shrimp, feta and pesto. As a delicious starter there was pea and mint cream, confit salmon, lime foam and cucumber and apple salad. For the intermediate course he served ravioli filled with egg yolk on a foam of porcini mushroom ragout.

The main course wowed the jury with veal loin with cauliflower puree and passion fruit, and for dessert basil ice cream was served with a white chocolate cake and raspberry mousse. With this, Tobias finally enchanted the jury and cooked his way to victory.

The happy winner Tobias revealed after the nerve-wracking finale: "I am so happy and cannot express my joy in words. I would like to thank Katharina for the great and fair competition and my family for their support. My culinary cooking journey started with 'MasterChef' and is only just getting started.

With the winnings, I would love to become self-employed as an event chef and before that visit a few special restaurants around the world. And of course the children from my kindergarten can also look forward to a surprise.”

"MasterChef" juror Ralf Zacherl said: "The decision couldn't have been more difficult. Both Katharina and Tobias have developed their own style and have really enchanted us with their culinary skills on every show. We as the 'MasterChef' jury are incredibly proud of them both - they are both true master chefs who we all have taken to our hearts. In the end, however, Tobias came out on top."

In early 2020, the new "MasterChef" spin-off "MasterChef Celebrity" will be filmed in Cologne with numerous high-profile celebrities. The new season will be shown exclusively on Sky 1 next year.
