Upday launches in more countries

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S20 In Europe, Upday is expanding into 18 additional countries, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.

The news service is pre-installed on the S20 and is easy for users to access by swiping right from the Samsung home screen.

The new country editions will be headed by Michał Wodziński (35) as “Head of Eastern Europe”, who will take on this role in addition to his position as Editor-in-Chief of Upday in Poland.

With the latest expansion, the News app is now available in 34 countries and 26 languages. The new markets include the Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece.

The proven concept remains unchanged: Local editorial teams curate “Top News”, while a learning algorithm generates “My News” based on individual user interests.

The expansion reflects the strengthened partnership between Upday and Samsung. Samsung itself has held a minority stake in Europe's largest news app since the end of last year.

Peter Würtenberger, CEO of Upday, says: "We are now represented almost everywhere in Europe and in many of the 18 new markets we are the first local news aggregator. I am delighted that we have been able to recruit Michał Wodziński as Head of Eastern Europe."
