Paris, 1899: President Félix Faure has just died in the arms of his lover Marguerite "Meg" Steinheil (Evelyne Brochu). After the Dreyfus affair, the republic is threatened with collapse between right-wing extremist, anti-Semitic groups and emerging anarchists.
Police chief Louis Lepine (Marc Barbé) is brought out of retirement to restore order in the capital. The young, ambitious inspector Antoine Jouins (Jérémie Laheurte) is transferred to La Sûreté, the French criminal police, and is tasked with investigating a sex scandal.
A suitcase containing the torso of a young woman was found in the Seine. In his first murder investigation, he is assisted by lawyer Jeanne Chauvin (Eugénie Derouand).
But Jouin's corrupt colleague Joseph Fiersi (Thibaut Evrard) is also interested in the case and hires "Meg" as a spy. When they uncover a conspiracy, they all have to work together to save France.
The series will also be available on demand via the streaming service Sky Ticket and Sky Q in July 2021.
The French crime series “Paris Police 1900”, produced for the premium broadcaster Canal+, shows the turn of the century as you have never seen it before.
With enormous effort and production costs of more than two million euros per episode, creator Fabien Nury brings old Paris back to life in every detail: as a contested den of iniquity at a turning point.
Similar to the Sky co-production “Babylon Berlin”, meticulously researched events and personalities and fictional characters merge into a gripping thriller.
The historical background seems astonishingly current: a conflict between radical groups heated up by the media, the fight for equal rights, increasing anti-Semitism.
