The current ranking of the best IPTV providers 2023

The farewell to the TV antenna and traditional cable television has long since begun, but the spread of IPTV – that is, television programs and other media content via the Internet – is developing rapidly.

“ImTest”, a major consumer magazine, has now taken a close look at the three nationwide IPTV providers such as Telekom, Vodafone and 1&1 as well as the company NetCologne, which is only available in the Rhineland metropolitan region.

Two other providers, Ewe and M-Net, were unable to take part in the test this year for technical reasons.

Experts from the Ismaning service provider Zafaco carried out more than 500.000 measurements during the test period.

The results will be published this Saturday as an e-paper in the apps of all “Funke” daily newspapers and online at imtest.de/370069.

The test winner with an overall score of 1,37 (“very good”) is the offer from 1&1, closely followed by the offer from Deutsche Telekom with a score of 1,41 (“very good”).

Third place goes to Vodafone with a score of (1,98 / “good”).

Although NetCologne’s offering was rated 1,14 (“very good”) in the test, it is not part of the nationwide ranking because the provider is only available to a few users.

On the one hand, the test focused on the pure TV part, where aspects such as the quality of the set-top boxes in terms of failure rates or channel switching times as well as the quality of the video streams themselves were examined.

The evaluation of the TV part cannot be separated from the quality of the Internet access itself.

For this reason, Zafaco always tested the pure Internet and telephone connection for each provider and measured and evaluated the simultaneous combination of all three types of use.
