Cult volleyball from “Cast Away” stranded in new Fiji campaign

25 years after the cinema success “Cast Away” with Tom Hanks One of Hollywood's most unusual movie stars is making a surprising comeback - Wilson, the volleyball player, is back.

Not in the cinema, but as part of an attention-grabbing social media campaign by Tourism Fiji entitled “Wilson's Happily Ever After”.

Film classics in a holiday paradise

Instead of a deserted island, Wilson lands this time in one of the most beautiful places in the world: the Serenity Island Resort in Fiji. In the 90-second spot, he is found there by a young girl named Lani – and thus begins a touching story full of joie de vivre and experiences of nature.

Whether it's Eco-Trax tours through the rainforest, kayaking across turquoise lagoons, kava ceremonies, or, of course, volleyball with new friends – Wilson discovers a new world, far from loneliness.

Symbol of hope 

"Wilson represents lost hope – and Fiji represents finding it again," explains Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji. The campaign not only focuses on nostalgia, but is also a declaration of love for Fiji as a Film location and destination.

More and more international productions are discovering the archipelago: Over 1.200 locals now work in the film industry, and in 2024 alone, around 100 million FJD flowed into the local economy through international filming.

Tourism figures from DACH

Tourism is also developing positively: in the first five months of 2025, the number of German-speaking guests increased by 9% compared to the previous year.

Fiji is thus positioning itself not only as a dream destination for film crews, but also as an attractive long-haul destination for holidaymakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
