Elon Musk disses Netflix

Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk At the beginning of October 2025, it publicly called for Netflix to be canceled via its platform X.

The background is his criticism of certain children's series, which he described as "politically over-correct" and "unhealthy for children."

The focus is particularly on the animated series “Dead End: Paranormal Park,” in which a transgender character plays a central role.

Confirmation of the boycott call

Several international media outlets confirmed the incident. Musk urged his approximately 226 to 227 million followers to unsubscribe.

In his posts, he spoke of an alleged “transgender agenda” in children’s series and supported his criticism with clear comments such as “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”

Netflix shares under pressure

The stock market reacted immediately:

◉ On 1 October 2025, the Netflix shares by around 2 to 2,3 percent and closed weaker than the previous day.

◉ Within the first week of October, the decline totaled about 5 percent.

◉ This corresponds to a loss of around 22 billion US dollars in market capitalization.

Analysts see a clear connection to Musk's call. Whether the share price decline reflects real waves of layoffs at Netflix will only become clear in the upcoming quarterly figures.

Questions about long-term consequences

While Musk’s action made headlines and caused significant market movements in the short term, it remains unclear whether the Streaming provider actually noticeably loses customers.

Industry observers emphasize that while calls for boycotts generate attention, their real impact on subscription numbers is difficult to predict…
