WhatsApp with a limit on messages?

WhatsApp, the globally popular messaging app, is currently testing a new feature that aims to restrict the sending of broadcast messages.

Users could in future maximum 30 of these messages per month send – a measure aimed at curbing spam and unsolicited mass messages.

What are broadcast messages?

WhatsApp's broadcast feature allows users to send a message to multiple contacts at once without having to create a group.

The feature is often used to quickly and efficiently distribute information to a larger audience. However, with the new limitation, both private and business users may have to reconsider their use of this feature.

Real-time information and monthly reset

The planned limit is reset monthly. App should display real-time information on how many broadcast messages a user is still allowed to send in the current month.

There could also be paid options for companies to increase the number of messages allowed.

Alternatives for longer ranges

WhatsApp recommends that users affected by the limitation switch to other functions such as status updates or channels.

They also offer opportunities to share content with a wider audience – but without the direct messaging function.

Beta testing phase is underway

The message limit is currently in beta testing and hasn't been fully implemented yet. It remains to be seen how users react to this restriction and whether WhatsApp will make further adjustments.
