Powder keg Wikipedia – task pre-programmed
Wikipedia is considered one of the largest collaborative knowledge projects on the Internet, but behind the open facade there is dissatisfaction.
More and more committed authors are withdrawing or refraining from participating because they are confronted with a climate of lack of transparency, devaluation and abuse of power.

The consequence: Active participation in the free encyclopedia has been declining significantly for years.
Excessive extinguishing practices: The “extinguishing hell”
A key problem is the perceived arbitrary deletion of articles. Content that has been the result of hours of research and editorial care is sometimes deleted within a very short period of time – often citing alleged lack of relevance or formal deficiencies.
Many authors describe this practice as a “deleting frenzy” or even “deleting hell.” Particularly frustrating is the Dealing with new authorswhich often encounter little support but harsh rejection.
We have also had this experience: An entry that was factually formulated, transparent and supported by publicly accessible sources was deleted within hours – without any in-depth justification and despite its obvious relevance.
The exchange with administrators was uncooperative. Instead of dialogue, we experienced defensiveness and lecturing.
Tone of communication and deterrence of new authors
The often harsh and sometimes condescending tone on discussion pages deters many potential contributors. Instead of communicating on an equal level, experienced Wikipedians often treat new users with suspicion or even outright rejection.
The destroys motivationto commit long-term. A disastrous result for a project based on volunteers. We, too, gave up in frustration.
Lack of transparency and accountability
Wikipedia's decision-making processes also raise questions. Administrators often make far-reaching decisions without adequate justification or any discernible feedback to the community.
Those who express criticism or ask questions are often dismissed. The accusations are a lack of transparency, a lack of accountability, and a concentration of power in the hands of a few activists.
As a new user, you get the feeling that there are a lot of frustrated people at work there who can vent their insults anonymously.
Alienation by the Wikimedia Foundation
In addition to the conflicts within the community itself, the behavior of the Wikimedia Foundation is also causing discontent. Technical changes, new guidelines or structural adjustments are reportedly introduced regularly without any real input from the active authors.
The Foundation threatens to distance itself from the grassroots, with far-reaching consequences for trust in the project.
Participation on the decline
The consequences of these developments can be statistically proven: the number of active contributors to the German-language Wikipedia is steadily declining.
The loss of knowledge, diversity, and volunteerism is an alarming sign. Relevance is declining.
Wikipedia must regain trust
Wikipedia is at a crossroads. Without reforms and a clear commitment to openness, fairness, and constructive collaboration, the project will continue to lose credibility and participation.
Access to free knowledge must not become a condescending project of anonymous individuals, but must be open, inviting and transparent.
