The popular podcast will get moving images from 2026 onwards – while remaining true to its original recipe for success.

What began in 2019 as a purely audio podcast is now evolving: The “Deichmomente” (Dyke Moments) series from the St. Peter-Ording Tourist Office and the St. Peter-Ording/Eiderstedt Local Tourism Organization will in future focus on… Video.

Thousands of listeners have followed the stories about people, traditions, and special places around St. Peter-Ording and Eiderstedt over the past few years. Now, pictures are being added.

From hearing to seeing

The change is a response to evolving viewing habits. More and more people are consuming content not just through sound, but also want to be visually present. The creators have recognized this and are taking appropriate action.

“With Deichmomente, we broke new ground in digital destination marketing early on. The great response confirms our concept,” explains Carolin Kühn, Head of Tourism at the St. Peter-Ording Tourist Office.

The move to video podcasts is the logical next step to make stories more engaging and reach more people.

First episode in the sheepfold

The series opens with an episode from the Frisian sheep cheese dairy Volquardsen in Tetenbüll. Among more than a hundred sheep, the episode shows how craftsmanship, animal husbandry, and regional identity intertwine.

Viewers gain direct insight into the work processes, philosophy and daily life in the cheese factory.

Presenter Simone Weilandt describes her work as follows: "For me, 'Deichmomente' (dike moments) are moments of dialogue. Engaging in conversation with people who can so wonderfully share their connection to the Eiderstedt peninsula leaves me with the feeling of living in an incredibly beautiful place with warm-hearted people every time."

Nine episodes planned

Approximately nine video podcast episodes are planned for 2026. They will be distributed via the digital channels of the St. Peter-Ording Tourist Information Center.

The format is aimed equally at locals and visitors to the region – and at anyone interested in authentic insights into life on the North Sea coast.

The “Dyke Moments” series demonstrates that successful formats can evolve without losing their roots. Stories remain at the heart of the matter. Only the way they are told adapts…
