Sarah Engels is going to the Eurovision Song Contest with "Fire".

Sarah Engels won the German Eurovision Song Contest final. With her song "Fire", the 33-year-old from Cologne prevailed against the competition and will travel to Vienna for the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

Her performance, characterized by strong stage presence and vocal power, left no doubt about the result in the end.


Victory by jury and audience

At the “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2026”, Engels impressed both the international jury and the audience.

“I am overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for this moment,” said Engels after her victory. “The Eurovision Song Contest has always been a dream of mine – and now I get to represent Germany at the biggest music show in the world.”

70 years of Eurovision

The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 celebrates its 70th anniversary. The final will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Vienna and will be broadcast live on ARD and in the ARD Mediathek from 21:00 pm.

Starting at 20:15 pm, Das Erste will broadcast a countdown show, also live from the Austrian capital.

Schöneberger always moderates

Barbara Schöneberger and Hazel Brugger hosted the evening – their first time together. The presenting duo relied on charm and quick wit, keeping the show entertaining.

The evening was commentated by Thorsten Schorn, who guided the audience through the jury's decisions and the subsequent voting.

Celebrity guests and flashbacks

Guests at the live show included Eurovision icon Paola Felix, actor Hans Sigl as well as the duo Abor & TynnaIn retrospectives, they brought seven decades of Eurovision history to life – with legendary hits and TV moments that have thrilled the ESC audience for generations.

Michael Schulte delivered a particularly emotional moment: He performed a medley of "Satellite" and "You Let Me Walk Alone" on stage. Both songs won the vote for the most popular German Eurovision entry of all time.

SWR is in charge of the preliminary round

Clemens Bratzler, program director at SWR, drew a positive conclusion after the show: "Congratulations, Sarah Engels! We look forward to the journey together to the final in Vienna."

The SWR is the lead broadcaster for ARD, in cooperation with BR and HR. It was the first Eurovision Song Contest pre-selection under SWR's responsibility.
