Talents2Norway awards young journalists for multimedia Norway reports

In March, twelve young German-speaking journalists, invited by Visit Norway, researched their chosen topic in the wintery fjords of Western Norway. The three winning entries have now been chosen.

Norway, with its fjords, mountains and coasts, has been making tourism history for over 100 years. The current great interest in nature and society between the Skagerrak and the Arctic is reflected not only in the number of travelers, but also in the attention that Norway as a travel destination receives in the media.

To showcase the diversity of topics in the country to young media representatives, the German office of Innovation Norway, with its tourism brand Visit Norway, announced the "Talents2Norway" award for young travel journalists for the third time this year.

The topic was wintery fjord Norway, which stretches between Stavanger in the south and Kristiansund in the north of the west coast and whose topography is a symbol of Norway's uniqueness. The aim of the competition, which is endowed with a total of 3.500 euros, was to produce multimedia reporting on a topic of the entrant's choice.

A jury of renowned journalists has now selected the three winners from the contributions of the 12 qualified participants, who were able to conduct research on site for a week in March.

First place went to author Marius Buhl, who in his report “Neo-fjordisch, erfolgreich”, published in the Tagesspiegel, deals with the punk roots and visions of top chef Christopher Haatuft.

Five residents of the Fjord Norway coast report on their very different perceptions of happiness and don't skimp on tips for people in Germany. The article "The Luck of the Norwegians – and what they advise the Germans“ by Ibrahim Naber was awarded second place and is available at welt.de.

In his Huffington Post article “The Wavebreakers”, Lennart Pfahler examines how a group of enthusiastic young music fans have turned the tranquil town of Bergen into one of Europe’s music scene hotspots. Pfahler was awarded third place for his work.
