What is going on on German streets and online? Where does this hatred come from that divides our society?
In the report “ProSieben Topic: Germany Radical” (Monday, September 6, 20:15 p.m.), investigative reporter Thilo Mischke asks questions that concern our country: Why do people become radicalized?
What drives them to join conspiracy ideologies? What responsibility does society have towards them? And why is what they believe in so dangerous?
He meets an activist and mother whose family has turned away from her since she joined the lateral thinker scene. He conducts undercover research to uncover the structures and influencers of the movement.
“ProSieben Topic: Radical Germany – How hate divides our society” – on Monday, September 6, 2021, at 20:15 p.m. on ProSieben.
He is warned by a dropout that the scene is moving ever further towards the right-wing political spectrum. He discusses fake news and scaremongering in the media with "Bild" editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt and science journalist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim.
And he speaks with Thomas Haldenwang, President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, about the democratic undermining effect of hatred.
Thilo Mischke says: "I have been researching the topic of hate and radicalization in Germany since March 2020 and was impressed by how aggressively some people react when you talk to them about it. If I don't believe in what they believe in, I am worth less in their eyes."
He says: "Facts don't get you very far, so I entered into a dialogue with them. I wanted to know: How do people become radicalized? What fuels them? What does all this say about the state of our democracy?"
