The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita is a tribute to an Italian icon. With its premiere on July 4th, Fiat is celebrating the birthday of the historic Fiat 500 on this very day in 1957, an automotive masterpiece that motorized large parts of Europe in the 1950s and still sets new records today. The special model recalls the glamorous lifestyle that made fashion, design, art and aesthetics part of everyday life and the general sense of style six decades ago. These are precisely the building blocks of Italy's identity and charm, for which the Fiat 500 has become one of the world's most famous symbols. The 62nd birthday of the "Nuova Cinquecento" coincides with the 120th birthday of the Fiat brand, an age that few car manufacturers in the world can be proud of.

The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita – distinctive elegance for a masterful automobile

The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita special model offers even more elegance and exclusivity. It represents the authentic Italian style that is generally associated with the years of the "Dolce Vita". The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita is painted in exclusive Gelato White, with a red-white-red beauty line running around the entire body. Another eye-catcher is the chrome Dolcevita lettering on the trunk lid, which harmonizes perfectly with the chrome-look decorative elements on the bonnet, the exterior mirror caps and the side protective strips with the 500 logo. The elegant look is rounded off by white-painted 16-inch alloy wheels with a diamond finish.

While the sedan comes with a glass roof as standard, the Fiat 500C Dolcevita convertible is equipped with a white and blue striped fabric top. Red embroidered 500 logos complete the association with the deck chairs and parasols that were typical of the Italian Riviera in the 1960s. The blue and white color scheme, reminiscent of blue water and white sand, is achieved through a special weaving process that also gives the fabric a denim structure. The red 500 logo is the exclusive hallmark of the new special model.

The convertible version of the Fiat 500 celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2019. The model, presented in 2009, is a tribute to the Fiat 500 from 1957, which had a similar fabric roof, but which implements this inspiration with modern technology and offers a true window to the sky with the canvas roof.

With similarly meticulous elegance, the interior of the Fiat 500 Dolcevita draws inspiration from the world of yacht and sailing boat construction. A striking example of this is the dashboard, which is clad in wood and features a contrasting beauty line. To ensure stability, flexibility and durability, the wood veneer is applied to a carbon fiber base. This process combines artisanal skills such as sanding, dyeing and quality control with industrial processes such as embossing, turning and assembly. The dashboard of the new Fiat 500 Dolcevita combines wood, one of the most natural materials there is, with the latest processing technology to produce excellent quality. The interior of the Fiat 500 Dolcevita complements the unmistakable style of the body with seat upholstery made of leather from Poltrona Frau, which features red pipe-effect inserts and basket-weaving-inspired backrests. The ivory color of the seat upholstery is picked up by the edging of the floor mats.

There are four drive variants to choose from for both body variants of the new Fiat 500 Dolcevita: a 1,2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 51 kW (69 hp), which can be combined with either a manual transmission or a Dualogic automatic; the two-cylinder TwinAir turbo petrol engine with 63 kW (85 hp) and manual transmission; the 1,2-litre four-cylinder in a bivalent variant that runs on both petrol and LPG and is combined with a manual transmission.

The memory of the exciting 1960s awakens dreams

The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita is an invitation to relive the incomparable atmosphere of the 1960s. A time when Rome was the capital of the international jet set, home to chic nightclubs, luxurious hotels and trendy cafes that magically attracted actors, artists, politicians and other VIPs. Their stories were told by the photojournalists of Via Veneto. The so-called paparazzi were the witnesses of the wild nights of Rome, always ready to sell their photos and the scandals behind them to the gossip press.

Perhaps the most famous scene from this era comes from the 1960 hit film "La dolce vita". It shows the actors Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg in the Trevi Fountain. The same atmosphere also gripped the famous holiday resorts across Europe, from the French Côte d'Azur to Forte dei Marmi and Portofino and Capri in Italy. These were the unforgettable years of the sweet life in which Italy reinvented itself, whose momentum and enthusiasm were often carried by the Fiat 500. The iconic automobile was the right answer to people's growing need for individual mobility and freedom.

It was not unusual to see the stars of the era in the Fiat 500 Jolly (1958). In fact, the beach car, also known by the nickname "Spiaggina", was the first special model of the Fiat 500, brought back to life in the summer of 2018 with the Fiat 500 Spiaggina '58. Now the joie de vivre and style of the 1960s are returning again with the Fiat 500 Dolcevita. The new special model borrows from the world of fashion and boat building, as did the Fiat 500 Riva (2016) - the "smallest yacht in the world" - and the Fiat 500 Anniversario (2017), the official tribute to the 60th anniversary of the historic "Nuova Cinquecento". It is certainly no coincidence that the flagships of Italian creativity during these years, including the Fiat 500 and the Vespa, have become firmly established in the collective memory and are still a source of inspiration today. Both are timeless masterpieces.

Even more model variety for new records

The new Fiat 500 Dolcevita expands the range of special models of the Fiat 500, which has already exceeded 30 in the twelve years of production. They are all iconic automobiles, created through the cooperation of the Centro Stile Fiat with renowned brands from, for example, fashion, yacht building and high technology. They enable the Fiat 500 to appeal to completely new customer groups. Always a trendsetter, the Fiat 500 series has been expanded even further in the new model year. New, for example, are the high-quality equipment variants Star and Rockstar.

These innovations help the Fiat 500 maintain its position as a bestseller. In 2018, in its eleventh year of production, the series, consisting of the Fiat 500 and Abarth 595 model families, set a new record with almost 194.000 registrations. For two years, the Fiat 500 series has been the best-selling in FCA's portfolio and is also the European market leader in the segment. The Fiat 500 model family now consists of the Fiat 500, Fiat 500X and Fiat 500L. Together, the models have just exceeded the production figure of three million.
