International Meistersinger Academy comes to Neumarkt
For the 13th time, the city of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz will host the International Meistersinger Academy from July 10th to August 8th.
Like every year, highly talented singers from all over the world come to Neumarkt to get their finishing touches at the summer academy in the areas of opera and song.

A maximum of 17 young talents will be selected at auditions in several cities and will receive an invitation to Neumarkt.
The nine young female and eight male singers come from Russia, Georgia, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Korea, Poland, and Austria. The rigorous selection process took place this year in New York, London, and Nuremberg.
After the academy in Neumarkt, the talents hope to get engagements in the world's major opera houses and concert halls - and not without reason.
In the past, the invitation to Neumarkt has been a career springboard for many to the opera stages of the world: important agents and opera house directors from all over the world also travel to Neumarkt to hear the young singers and, in many cases, to hire them directly.
Under the artistic direction of Professor Dr. hc Edith Wiens (New York) and the patronage of Kammersängerin Brigitte Fassbaender, the young singers not only receive their final vocal training at the highest level and work on their repertoire, they are also prepared for everyday professional life.
During the one-month summer academy, there are many opportunities to follow the musical progress of the academy participants “live”: In addition to the public master class with Prof. Dr. Edith Wiens in the Reitstadel (July 15), which can be attended informally and free of charge, the five concerts are particular highlights for the audience.
The opening concert, an orchestral gala on July 19th with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Benjamin Reiners and the young singers in the Reitstadel, will kick things off.
The summer serenade with songs by Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt follows on July 25th - a particularly moving concert event. The big opera and operetta gala on August 2nd and the identical public dress rehearsal the day before promise to be festive and opulent.
The undisputed highlight is the big closing open-air concert “Cabaret!”, which, if the weather is good, will take place on the arena stage in the idyllic State Garden Show Park.
Visitors experience a touch of Broadway under the open sky. The musical cabaret evening, accompanied on piano by Craig Terry (Chicago), allows the talented performers to showcase themselves in a lighter vocal genre.
