Musical Highlights in the Altenburger Land

Outstanding cultural treasures, culinary delicacies and craft traditions characterize the Altenburger Land, located in Thuringia not far from the Saxon cities of Leipzig and Chemnitz.

Famous sights, world-class museums and varied leisure activities invite you to visit the region in the warmer months under the motto “Your summer moment in the Altenburger Land”.

June 14th to 15th: Classic Open Air in Altenburg

This year’s atmospheric open-air concert of the Altenburg Gera Philharmonic Orchestra on the Altenburg market square has the motto “O Sole Mio – a Neapolitan night”.

The audience is transported to the dream country of Italy, the orchestra and singers of the music theater transform the market square into a Mediterranean piazza under the musical direction of conductor Thomas Wicklein.

August 15 to 24: Mystery Musical "Krabat and the King"

Olav Kröger and Manuel Kressin unleash a magical story about the legendary figure and transform the post mill in Lumpzig into a mystical place.

August 16 to 30: Altenburg Music Festival

Young national and international performers, students, graduates of music colleges, talented music students and qualified amateur ensembles present themselves in castles, churches, chamber music halls and other places of musical life in the Altenburg region.

The spectrum of genres is as diverse as the list of artists: from classical symphony orchestras to choirs and chamber music ensembles, and even rarely heard combinations. More information: altenburger-musikfestival.de.

September 21: Organ Night

In September, classical and contemporary pieces will be performed on four organs in Altenburg and Ponitz. Music lovers can look forward to sounds in an evening atmosphere and impressive lighting.
