“The Mountain Doctor” is filming in Tyrol

Thanks to the perfect snow conditions in East Tyrol, the “Bergdoktor” producers have moved the filming for the next winter special to the Defereggental.

While spring is already making its appearance in many places in the Alps, there is still a pure winter atmosphere in East Tyrol – thanks to the snow for the “mountain doctor”.

According to the script, the winter special of the ZDF television series “Der Bergdoktor” was originally supposed to be filmed in Ellmau am Wilden Kaiser. But unfortunately nature has thrown a wrench in the works: there is currently too little snow.

So the makers quickly changed their plans and moved the filming to the Defereggental in East Tyrol. Filming has been taking place since last week in St. Jakob in the Defereggental, with filming taking place mainly at the Staller Sattel, but also in the hamlet of Gassen.

In the last week of March, filming will continue in Kals am Großglockner. East Tyrol fans can look forward to it: the winter edition of the “Bergdoktor” lasts a full 90 minutes and shows an almost kitschy-beautiful East Tyrolean snow paradise.

Insiders have known it for a long time: East Tyrol is a real insider tip for snow fans and winter adventures. Every year, the holiday region is covered in deep snow from the beginning of November until well into spring.

This January, the Hydrographic Service of Tyrol even recorded record snow depths.

In Sillian, for example, it was 166 centimetres on the last Sunday in January. This is the highest value in 70 years.

Whether skiing, tobogganing or ice climbing, on cross-country ski runs, ski tours or winter hiking trails – winter in East Tyrol is guaranteed to have the right adventure for everyone...
