Try out works of art with the augmented reality app
Want to experience artworks in your own home before you even buy them? It's easy with Augmented Reality (AR) and the new "ARt App", which allows prospective buyers to project art into their intended location for a trial run.
For artists, the app opens up new ways to market their works. The ARt app is a prime example of how digitalization is providing new impetus even in traditionally “analog” areas of life such as the art market.

The ARt app inserts the artwork virtually into the camera image, displays freely scalable formats and thus makes the purchase decision much easier. Because once the right motif in the optimal size has been found, it can be ordered.
The print is created using the print-on-demand process on various high-quality materials, framed if desired and sent to its destination. Standard formats can be ordered directly from the online shop.
The ARt app from the Dortmund start-up “Kunstkaufhaus GmbH” allows art enthusiasts to “try out” works free of charge and without obligation by using their smartphone or other mobile device to capture the place they want to enhance.
The app opens up new digital marketplaces for artists and is a building block in a spectrum of digital support services that range from scanning and photographing artworks to their online presentation, on-demand printing, and shipping.
The classics – limited editions and signed by the artist – are of course also included. In addition, the individually programmed app facilitates analogue contacts and provides information about events, galleries and personal details of the artists by connecting to their personal social media accounts.
In a webinar, artists learn how to use the ARt app to market their art. Heike Reinemann, managing director of the art department store, says: "We see ourselves as partners for the digitization of art."
The app was developed by World of VR GmbH, Cologne, a partner of the art store. The prototype of the new ARt app is the Kunstkaufhaus (KKH) app, which has been available free of charge in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store since the Kunstkaufhaus launched in September 2020 and is continuously being further developed.
The works of over 20 artists can already be viewed here, tried out virtually and purchased in the art department store's online shop.
Kunstkaufhaus is a start-up founded in 2020 that brings artists and those interested in art into dialogue using digital means, such as an online shop and innovative app solutions.
