Business documentary: "Give me money or give up your data"

In recent years, German companies have increasingly become victims of digital blackmail. And the trend is increasing.

In a so-called ransomware attack, all data is encrypted, making software and hardware unusable. If the companies do not pay the ransom, all data is lost.

The “Makro” documentary “Give me money or give me your data!” by Dominic Egizzi and Tom Häussler provides insights into the criminals’ methods on December 14, 2021, at 22.25:3 p.m. on XNUMXsat – and gives those affected and investigators a chance to have their say.

The danger posed by cyber blackmailers is gigantic. They cause enormous economic damage.

According to a study by Bitkom, the German economy suffered losses of more than 24 billion euros last year.

“Give me your money or give up your data!” is a first broadcast on 3sat.

But it's not just companies that are affected. Hackers have also paralyzed and blackmailed authorities, hospitals and petrol pipelines in the past.

Such cyber attacks on the lifeblood of modern states have far-reaching consequences.

The perpetrators are networked worldwide, operate via the darknet and accept payment in cryptocurrencies.
