Getty Images and Google reach agreement

Getty Images and Google have reached an agreement and have now issued a press release. The photo agency and the search engine company announced that they are starting a multi-year global licensing partnership that will allow Google to use Getty Images content in various services.

The background to this agreement is that Getty Images complained to the EU Commission about the search engine over a year ago. The photo agency felt that its own business was being damaged by the high-resolution display of photos in the image search.

“This agreement between Getty Images and Google sets the stage for a very productive, collaborative relationship between our companies,” said Dawn Airey, CEO of Getty Images.

He continued: "We will license our content to Google and work closely with them to improve the work of our contributors and thereby grow the system."

Google's Chief Technology Officer Cathy Edwards said: "We are pleased to have signed this licensing agreement with Getty Images and we will now use their images in many of our products and services."
