Cannes Film Festival 2021: “Kulturzeit” reports in “Extra” edition

After the cancellation in 2020, the Croisette is once again dedicated to cinema: the Cannes Film Festival will take place from 6 to 17 July 2021 – with a top-class programme.

20 male and four female directors are competing for the Palme d'Or. "Kulturzeit extra: Cannes Film Festival 2021" will report on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 18.10:3 p.m. on XNUMXsat, about the glamorous festival on the Côte d'Azur, which was postponed from spring to summer.

The 74th edition opened with the musical film "Annette" by director Leos Carax, starring Adam Driver alongside Marion Cotillard. Films by Asghar Farhadi, Paul Verhoeven, Sean Penn, Jacques Audiard, and François Ozon are also being screened.

The Italian Nanni Moretti is represented, as is the director Kirill Serebrennikov, who is being pursued by the Russian judiciary, the film “The French Dispatch” by Wes Anderson, which has been announced with a large star cast and stars Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Christoph Waltz and Léa Seydoux, and the new film “Memoria” – with Tilda Swinton in the leading role – by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who won the Palme d'Or in 2010 with “Uncle Boonmee remembers his past lives”.

The big US studios, on the other hand, are absent, there are no blockbusters, no agreement has been reached with Netflix. And Germany is – once again – not represented in any section.

However, the festival has introduced the new series “Cannes Premiere” to do justice to the abundance of films.

There, too, you can find big names in directing, from Oliver Stone and Mathieu Almaric to Hong Sangsoo, Andrea Arnold and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
