Talk on TV – “Dealing with Corona – but how?!”

About three years ago, Covid-19 began to spread more and more. And brought with it many restrictions: lockdowns, closed schools, mandatory vaccinations in certain institutions.

Corona still exists, the pandemic is now over - but many questions remain.

“Dealing with Corona – but how?!” This is what the panel will discuss at “Fakt ist!” from Magdeburg on March 27, 2023.

The MDR talk can be seen from 20.30:22.10 p.m. in the live stream on mdr.de/tv and on the YouTube channel as well as at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. on MDR television and afterwards in the ARD Mediathek.

Above all, the repeated calls for vaccination from politicians, medical professionals, and the media have sparked heated debates.

Vaccine critics of all stripes gathered at demonstrations and walks. Because right-wingers and lateral thinkers also took part in the demonstration, many felt they were being unfairly criticized in a blanket manner.

Nurses who did not want to comply with a facility-based vaccination requirement changed careers. International studies show that quarantine and school closures have led to enormous educational deficits among children and young people.

The Corona policy with its restrictions on fundamental rights has also caused many discussions in family circles, among friends and colleagues - and in some cases even triggered heated arguments.

Jens Spahn, the CDU Federal Minister of Health at the time, said of the post-pandemic period: “We will have to forgive each other a lot.”

In the meantime, some of the Corona measures are being viewed critically: The FDP in the Bundestag wants to review the decisions made at the time with an inquiry commission, as does Saxony-Anhalt's state parliament.

What have politicians and health institutions learned from these three years? What could have been done differently, what was unavoidable?

How can we heal the societal wounds and scars caused by the pandemic? And how are politics and society dealing with the undoubtedly serious consequences of the pandemic today?

Anja Heyde will discuss this with the following guests, among others:

- Gabriele Meyer, Professor of Health and Nursing Sciences at the University of Halle
- Andrew Ullman, FDP member of the Bundestag, member of the Health Committee and specialist doctor
- Heide Richter-Airijoki, SPD member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, member of the Health Committee
- Michael Klundt, Professor of Child Policy at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences

Citizen reporter Stefan Bernschein meets a person affected by Long Covid and has guests in the audience who have commented on the topic in the opinion barometer “MDRfragt”, among others.

He also talks to MDR regional broadcasting director Tim Herden about the role of the media in the pandemic.
