“Aurora Driver” is Aurora’s platform that combines hardware, software and data services for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles. “Aurora Driver” realizes level 4 autonomous driving (fully automated driving), meaning it is able to sense and navigate the environment without human intervention.
This planned partnership would integrate Aurora Driver into FCA's commercial vehicle architecture, offering a range of specific solutions for the transport industry, which is facing new logistical challenges due to changes in consumers' lifestyles and online shopping habits.
"As part of FCA's autonomous vehicle strategy, we will continue to work with strategic partners to meet customer needs in a rapidly changing industry," said Mike Manley, Chief Executive Officer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. "Aurora brings unique expertise combined with advanced and targeted technology to strengthen our approach to autonomous driving."
FCA brings to the partnership a broad range of expertise in the design, development and manufacturing of a wide range of commercial vehicles, as well as established relationships with suppliers, dealer partners and commercial vehicle customers needed to market this technology.
“We are proud to partner with FCA US to build a viable business model to bring the benefits of autonomous commercial vehicles to market,” said Sterling Anderson, Chief Product Officer and one of Aurora’s founders.
