37 million citizens read printed daily newspapers
Every day, 36,8 million people in Germany pick up a printed newspaper. This gives daily newspapers a reach of 52 percent. That means more than half of all Germans aged 14 and over read a print edition every day.
This is complemented by the increasing reach of digital newspaper offerings: they record 16,3 million users daily and thus reach 23,6 percent of the German-speaking population aged 16 and over.

“Whether printed on paper or digital: People value the reliable journalism of newspapers. More readers than ever are using the diverse offerings of German newspapers. Especially during the Corona pandemic, it has become clear once again how indispensable newspapers are for society,” commented Katrin Tischer, Managing Director of the Federal Association of Digital Publishers and Newspaper Publishers (BDZV), on the latest figures from the Working Group for Media Analysis (agma).
Regional subscription newspapers have the largest readership, with 29,9 million daily print readers. 42,3 percent of the population reads the regional titles on paper, and 9 million read them digitally every day. Newspapers sold by retailers reach 8,9 million readers in print, and national subscription newspapers reach 3,7 million.
For the reach of daily newspapers published today by Agma (ma Tageszeitungen 2020), around 133.000 German-speaking people aged 14 and over were surveyed.
