Taxi: “ZDFzoom” about the new mobility law

Taxis and other mobility providers have been arguing about costs, kilometers and customers for years – can the new law now guarantee fair competition for the industry?

What is the benefit of the Passenger Transport Act passed by the Bundestag, which for the first time provides a legal framework for “the newcomers” on the mobility market?

On March 10, 2021, at 22.45:XNUMX p.m., “ZDFzoom” will address this question in “Taxi versus Uber & Co – The Battle for Germany’s Streets.”

A few days ago, the Bundestag passed the new law, which for the first time provides a legal framework for taxi-like digital mobility providers such as Uber.

Taxi companies criticise this as it will only exacerbate existing inequalities. Taxi companies charge a fixed kilometer rate set by cities and municipalities.

They must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and accept every trip in order to ensure comprehensive mobility, including in rural areas.

This is not expected to change with the new law. After years of wrangling, the Federal Ministry of Transport speaks of a "good compromise" and "more mobility" for everyone.

“ZDFzoom” reporter Thorsten Poppe wants to find out what the new mobility law means for drivers, how experts assess the digital business models and who ultimately pays the price for the ongoing battle for Germany's roads.

If the new law also finds a majority in the Federal Council at the end of the month, this will mean that there will officially be different conditions for the same service.
