What do the 1980s have in common with today?
Starting Monday on ProSieben, Jenke von Wilmsdorff dedicates himself to the music, films, fashion and politics of the 1980s in “Jenke. Time Travel. What connects the wild 80s with today” – and talks to representatives of the Baby Boomer and Gen Z generations.
They destroyed the environment, failed to make the welfare state sustainable and demonstrated a work ethic that is no longer appropriate today – this is what Gen Z accuses the baby boomers of.
On the other hand, it is said that Generation Z is too lazy, far too sensitive and always interprets everything to their own advantage.
Journalist Jenke von Wilmsdorff wants to find out how much truth there is in these statements and where they come from.
Jenke brings both generations together at the table. Entrepreneur Yael Meier explains in the discussion: "I can no longer imagine a world without the Internet!"
How big is the power imbalance between the digital and analogue generations? "You already have children. Has the older one (three years old) ever held a cell phone in her hand?" asks baby boomer representative and moderator Barbara Eligmann.
She admits laughing: “I am not prepared for anything, especially not for Artificial Intelligence!” Gen Z representative and Spiegel bestseller author Valentina Vapaux and generational researcher Rüdiger Maas complete the panel.
Were the boomers so different back then? Or do boomers and Generation Z have more in common than they think? To find out, Jenke says hello again and goes on a journey through time in Germany.
He visits locations of historical significance and meets prominent contemporary witnesses such as Dietmar Bär, Jeanette Biedermann, Michael Groß, Ingolf Lück, Oliver Kalkhofe, Wigald Boning, Petra Gerster, Hugo Egon Balder as well as companions of his very personal biography.
