New documentary about Atlantis
ZDFinfo continues the series “Mythos – The Great Mysteries of History” – on December 25, 2020 at 20.15:XNUMX p.m. with a new episode about “The Search for Atlantis”.
Almost 2.500 years ago, Plato described Atlantis as a sunken civilization at the beginning of time – an island empire with magnificent nature, fascinating buildings and fabulous luxury.

But then Atlantis is said to have sunk within a day and a night due to a devastating natural disaster. The ZDFinfo documentary "Myth - The Greatest Mysteries of History: The Search for Atlantis" describes how scientists are trying to track down the sunken city.
The American archaeologist Richard Freund, for example, is looking for traces of Atlantis in southern Spain at the Strait of Gibraltar – according to Plato’s description of the place “behind the Pillars of Hercules”.
The film will be available in the ZDF media library from December 25, 2020.
Other researchers believe Atlantis was in the Mediterranean, Plato's homeland. The hottest candidate: the Greek volcanic island of Santorini. A huge catastrophe is said to have occurred there in pre-ancient times - geologist Evi Nomikou is looking for clues in the island's rock.
The search for Atlantis inspires not only scientists, but also amateur researchers. Some locate the island state in Africa - others see Atlantis as an alien space station.
