Documentary: The Queen and the Power of Images

Four days after the funeral of her late husband Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II will now turn 95 – on April 21, 2021.

One day before this birthday, “ZDFzeit” looks at the life of the monarch who ascended the throne 69 years ago.

The “ZDFzeit” documentary “The Queen and the Power of Images” will shed light on April 20, 2021, at 20.15:XNUMX p.m. on ZDF, how the Queen continues to lead the British monarchy through ups and downs to this day.

Queen Elizabeth II's 95th birthday is the first in 73 years without Prince Philip at her side. The film shows how the Queen has always had to balance her life with the duties of the crown and embody the stability of the royal family in public.

In the “ZDFzeit” documentary, royal expert Robert Hardman says: “The Queen exudes something timeless.” Her father was still Emperor of India and represented an empire that included a quarter of the world’s population.

The film by ZDF author Ulrike Grunewald, which will also contain images from the funeral ceremony for Prince Philip, will then also be available in the media library.

The young Princess Elizabeth saw one crown colony after another gain independence. She witnessed the beginning and blossoming of the Commonwealth of Nations, which replaced the Empire and of which the British monarch remains head to this day.

The documentary also highlights the many crises that arose during the long years on the throne – the most famous of which is probably the separation of Prince Charles and Princess Diana and the subsequent war of the roses.
